United Kingdom

Easter in the UK has traditionally revolved around social events like Easter parades. Their waning popularity in the last few years has been the result of options for this weekend becoming endless. But the one symbol of Easter that continues to remain popular is the Easter egg - although we don't tend to boil them anymore!

Australia

On the other side of the globe, the Easter holidays are celebrated in the Autumn. Australians actually prefer their native creature the "Bilby" as the symbol for Easter. Mainly because rabbits destroyed the land, crops and the warrens of their own animals!

Africa

In Africa Easter celebrations take on a social dimension as well as spiritual one, and can last the whole day. Communities start assembling at church up to 4 hours early - just to get a seat! Afterwards, people remain to eat, drink and dance amidst the beating of the drums.

Sweden

Long ago in Sweden, Easter was the time of the witches. People would light bonfires, and gather round screaming and shouting to scare them off. This explains why today, children dress up at Easter as witches, and go from house to house collecting gifts or money - which is very much like our own Halloween.
