NEW COLLEGIATE
CHAPLAINS INSTALLED
Three new Collegiate Chaplains were installed
recently in the Kirk of St Nicholas Uniting (The
Mither Kirk). One of the three was the Rev
Andrew Jolly, Chaplain to the Oil Industry. It
was decided by the Kirk Session that three new
chaplains should be installed who would reflect
the Kirk's role in the city. This ancient office
was accepted by the Oil Chaplain, the Rev Howard
Drysdale who is the BISS Port Chaplain and Ms
Cate Adams the City Centre Chaplain and Chaplain
to Aberdeen City Council employees. All three
candidates were required to affirm that they
would forward and promote, as opportunity
offers, such works as promote the honour of
Jesus Christ, and the benefit of God's people in
the congregation of St Nicholas, the parish and
the city. The photo shows the Rev Stephen
Taylor, minister of St Nicholas in the

GIDEONS BIBLES FOR
NEXEN BUZZARD
The Gideons International have donated 120
Bibles for use on the new Buzzard Platform.
(Click on the link to be taken to the Maps page
- The Buzzard is in
Sector B). With
current estimates of gross recoverable reserves
in excess of 550 million barrels this makes
Buzzard the largest oilfield development in the
UK North Sea in more than a decade.
The Bibles which will be placed in the domestic
accommodation, were handed over in the Oil
Chaplaincy offices by Peter Ross of the Gideons.
Sandy Hutchin of Nexen the Facilities Manager of
the Buzzard received the Bibles on behalf of the
company. Many people are familiar with finding a
Gideons Bible in their hotel room and so it
should come as no surprise to those using the
domestic accommodation on the Buzzard to find a
Bible there too. Sandy said on taking receipt of
the Bibles "It is great that Gideons
International are so willing to respond to our
request".Pictured with the Bibles are left to
right, the Oil Chaplain, Sandy Hutchin and Peter
Ross.

SHELL BRENT CELEBRATIONS
PROVIDE FOR A UNIQUE CHAPLAINCY EVENT
Shell E&P UK has been celebrating 30 years of
production in the Brent Field. The anniversary
was marked with a series of dinners in Aberdeen
hosted by Kieron McFadyen, Vice President
Technical - Europe. The Brent Field has been
served by all three Oil Chaplains over the years
and they were all present at the first dinner in
Aberdeen. The Rev Andrew Wylie established the
chaplaincy and when he retired the Rev Angus
Smith was appointed to the post. The Rev Andrew
Jolly took over the role in Feb 06 when the Rev
Angus Smith retired. However, the three had
never been together in the same room at the same
time before. Also present that night was the
Chaplaincy Administrator Mrs Anne Fullerton who
has worked for all three chaplains and continues
to work in the chaplaincy.
The Rev Andrew Wylie and the Rev Angus Smith
joined the Rev Andrew Jolly on the podium as he
started the proceedings at the dinner with an
act of remembrance. Diners were asked to stand
and observe a minute's silence in memory of all
those who had lost their lives in the Brent
Field during the past 30 years. |
